Drive Across SA with Raydar
I broke my collar bone badly in Australia, April 08. Most painful experience of my life, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
I was forced to cut my OZ trip and return to South Africa for injury time out, recovery
Unable to bodyboard I had to cancel all my planned bodyboarding trips during this healing period. I had big plans and a lot of really cool trips planned for 08, sorry pal… not gonna happen… really heart breaking stuff.
It just so happened that… my great friend Raydar Solomon and his Girlfriend Renae where spending the year traveling on around the world tickets. Raydar informed me of his July visit in South Africa.
Right on…I was available to be the personal local tour guide, goodtimes guide and loony supporter of the visual and physical excess and indulgence of decadent experiences. It was a very pleasant distraction from the bitter taste of my injury.
The memories that occured are added to that of the wealth of my long term memory bank… riches, they come in many forms.
We had a blast, living it up at a good pace. Staying in super cool places… Sunset Guest House right on the beach, a Old Motel in the middle of the dessert, friends massive 14 bedroom Mansion, Champagne farm.. all kinds… Cruised and checked out rad shit in company of close friends.
Our staple diet consisted of wine and garlic pizza bread, followed by some beer and steaks, maby some fresh fish and more wine… tasty stuff. Just eating fine food in good restaurants and drinking top notch wine. It was good roman times. Ray and Renea are from NYC and I have spent time there…. New Yorks know how to live man.
I just saw Raydar for the first time since the trip. We surfed fun Creek yesterday, very wedgey and rampy…. it was a gift for Christmas, the ocean gave us a lovely a present …
Anyways he had his laptop with him and showed me all his photos from the trip. I thought it would be a perfect idea to show you a part of my travels this year… well mostly my only travels, and who knew it would be within my own country.
Thanks to the Mommy for massive support as aslways.
Thanks very much to Daddy support and letting us stay at: Sunset Beach Guest House <——– CLICK ON LINK
We spent the month driving across South Africa…This is a glimpse of the fun, beauty and wildness that went down.
First off, South Africa is famous for Shark’s and Shark attacks. They love boogie boarders, cause they confuse us for turtles.
This is a freaky hologram simulation of what you would see if a Shark was about to yomp your face.
Make sure you are not bleeding at all when you get in the water to surf… they can smell 1 drop of blood from many miles away and they love it…. watch out or you will get chowed.
As soon as Raydar arrived I needed to throw him a day time pool party at my parents house. 1 David Avenue… the most free house I have ever been.. This place has real soul, its very much alive.
Even our dogs bodyboard… skills!!
Hippy drawing times always take place at a 1 David Ave day time party.
This is good supplies. Black Label beer, the best beer in SA. If you wanna be a man in SA you need to drink Black Label.
Raydar keeping it weird. Love him for it. Things are getting strange now now.
The sun was starting to set, and my precious little Sugar was getting very chilly. How good is her hang out spot.
YEAHHHH MAN… now we talkin… My dad joins the party… He RULES, cant you tell.
Mind boggling, mind blowing flying.
Family fun times are the best times. The whole Botha family frozen in time - 1 David Ave, July ‘08.
The was sun setting so the party moved to the Durban club scene. The Mommy joins us, cause she loves the goodtimes… bless her soul. So lovely… My hometown friend Pemmie is the man! He loves Heineken and fluff.
Look at the two love birds. Aggressive in da club suck face by Raydar, good rock & roll style.
My friend “Long”, owner of the club. Spinning the gooood beats on the decks brother.
Than it started snowing inside the club… for real man… check it out
GROOVY TIMES!!!
The snow had a great effect on my brother Marck, OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
The snow quit, so we left. I got lucky with Renae this night, Raydar doesn’t know about it cause he was blacked out in bed. She has skills.
HAHA… jk My Raydar.
This is what you see on the side of the street when you leave the club to get a taxi home.
On the road. On the way to see wild animals.
Bulls also need to cross the road.
Big Pimping with the outdoor lounge.
We made it to the place where you see wild animals. This is the sculls of the dead ones. R.I.P.
This is what you drink while you drive and look at Wild animals.
Stripey the stripe, stripe. Zebra hanging out.
Cute man!!!!
Good scrappers. Oik OIK OIK!!! The one on the right is me once I start drinking, can you say “booze pig”
Ray wanted to chase them, catch them, kill them and have bacon for breakfast.
Bushwhacking in the Bush is extremely coooooool. Having a Savannah in the African Savannah.
I like this guy. Good to hang out with you buddy.
OOOOOOooooooooh look at these cool lil guys running past us…. action!!
Look at them all hanging out together.
This is how the freeways look in SA.
This is the SA national animal, called the springbok. They are very springy and like to do massive jumps while they run. This one is pretty chill. Kinda frozen in fear.
Solo Zebra posing for the camera.
Baboon with big size monkey style, getting excited checking out some hot zebra ass.
Back on the road again. These massive road trains are really scary to pass.
Massive facial right there. Poor truck driver must have taken heat for that big mistake. Ray was loving the wipe out, doing a soild point and laugh.
As the sunsets we need to find a Motel in the middle of the Karoo dessert, we will need a place to rest our heads for the night.
Wow we found a epic old school Hotel in the middle of no where called Beau Fort West. Good beers and projects!!
Driving all day makes broken so we need to be relaxing with some beers in the Motel.
We really like the paintings in this place.
Good lounging. In the sleazy old lounge.
Raydar with a little vodka and a map of Africa behind him.
Having a laugh with the Motels security guard. This guy loved us and wanted to hang out all night.
Flowers look amazing and facanating when you are drunk, just look at the consentration of Raydars face.
Giving my FAV painting some final love before bed time.
Early morning wake up, still half drunk… ready to for driving most of the day… thats how we live.
Early morning dessert road.
Sun rising river crossing.
Road works all over, it breaks the driving pace and make you wait in the car, sometimes for more than 30 mins. So torture.
One of the many scrapper towns that you pass on the road across SA.
Unisex hairdresser in the scrapper town.
Sheep also cross the road, especially around the small towns in the Transki. This makes driving very dangerous in these areas. Also if you have car trouble in these areas, you might be in some trouble… everything you own will be stolen… including your car… so good luck walking where ever your going, or maby starve to death in the middle of no where… even better, rape than murder by the criminal… high risk traveling.
South African black township graffiti.
The pinnacle of Reena’s driving support.
Coooool beach lay times.
Very lovely coastline.
Hanging out with the owner of
Polana Bar and Restaurant <———- CLICK ON LINK
This place is awsome, best location and best ambiance. The owner rules, free drinks all night for us. Great support.
Look at that MASSIVE afro!!!!
Ray has his driving hat on.
Driving into some different landscape and climate. That was snow on the mountains but it wasn’t that cold.
Getting really out there while going through the haunted forest to get to the beach.
Hows this old school canon. The Dutch used this to blow shit up.
Boulders beach, Cape Town. This place is pretty amazing.
We went on this great adventure to see the pengiuns. We got totally lost and got stuck with rocks everywhere… so we had to find this tiny little gap in between these two rocks and squeeze through… Tech squeezing skills.
Look!! We made it and found the cute lil penguins.
Raydar communicating with his buddy in telepathic penguin experimentation… letting him know just how hard it was to hang out with him… look at the lil guys mouth he is talking back to raydar in human language, telling him to go back to NYC and leave him alone in peace.
A rain squall hit us as we where checking out our buddies.
Bye bye, penguins, hope to see again soon.
Best Beach I’ve ever, down there. Diaz Beach, Cape Point.
This photo supplies information.
I love this picture. Big NYC love.
We spotted a heavy wave down there. It was fun to watch.
That little ledge is so sketchy… its sooooo high… it was scary taking this photo.. its hiiiiiiiiiiigh.
It was so fun driving through this tunnel. light, dark, light.
Going down down down….
Going round round round……
Table Mountian, Cape Town.
Cape Town, Harbour and City.

Lundudlo beach… Only for the uber rich and super sexy. Check it out
Pre buzz on afternoon nap.
This is Seddie. He has been good friends with Ray for a long time. They dont mind a drink together.
Proper boozing for the last night. Good brothers right here.
You know that you’ve had a goodtime when you fall asleep in the club and your friends get photos with you, while your in dream land… good night sleep tight.
Ray and his Teddie at the Guest Hosue, being sensative together, in the morning.
Another Wild Animal.
